Buying Avocados at the Grocery Store
Don't buy soft avocados at the grocery store.
Why? They've already been handled, tossed around and beaten up, even if they look good on the outside.
Buy hard, unripe avocados. The ones that won't be ready for a few days. The ones that are half black, half green. Or, even mostly green.
They're hard as a rock, but I promise they're the ones you want for this storage hack.

How to Store Avocados at Home
When you get home, put the avocados on your counter or fruit bowl. Check them every day as you walk by them.
Leave them there until they are all black (no more green) and tender to the touch near the stem, usually 1-3 days.

As soon as they're tender, transfer them to the refrigerator. You may have some avocados that ripen sooner than others. Put the soft and tender ones in the fridge as soon as they're ready. Then, add the other ones when they're tender.
I usually put them inside an open bowl or container, so nothing else gets put on top of them, bruising or damaging them. I do not store them loose in my vegetable drawer. They're always inside a container.

Now, whenever you need an avocado, grab it from the refrigerator and cut into it!
These avocados will keep in the refrigerator, perfectly ripe and soft for a few weeks! I've done this over and over again, with excellent results.
Sometimes, I have avocados in my fridge I bought a month ago. At that point, they are still green inside, but starting to go bad.
So, the sweet spot is to use them up within 2-3 weeks and keep them protected from getting jostled in the fridge by storing them inside a container (it doesn't have to be covered).
I hope this was helpful and saves you some money and frustration!
